Direct vs Horizontal Distance: The line measurement tool displays two different distance measurements: direct and horizontal. Direct distance assumes a flat surface and does not factor in the curvature of the Earth. Horizontal distance accounts for the curvature of the Earth. If the measurement exceeds 62mi/100km the tool will only display the horizontal distance.
Left-Click: Measure a distance/an area
Double-Left-Click: Complete measurement
The contour-like lines show where the vertex will be added with respect to basemap elevation. Use these as guides when measuring elevation changes.
Modify a drawing by left-clicking and dragging the circle that appears when hovering over a vertex. The measurement will dynamically update.
To completely exit sketch mode and return to pan mode left-click the Draw Polyline/Polygon button a second time, depending on which button was initially selected.
Drawing a Polyline/Polygon: Single tap on the map to place a vertex. Keep single tapping on the map to add additional vertices to the polyline/polygon. A polyline will automatically finish the sketch after the second point has been placed. Double tap on the map to finish a polygon. Once the sketch has been finished start a new one by single tapping anywhere on the map again.
Measuring Elevation: The contour-like lines show where the vertex will be added with respect to basemap elevation. Use these as guides to measure an area/distance with elevation changes.
